Bill Richardson
Amidst the turbulent, emotional Democratic primary, New Mexico
Governor Bill Richardson has emerged as a defeated presidential
candidate but a triumphant man of courage.
This week's BuzzFlash reader nominator, Patricia Weller, takes
it from here:
One must appreciate the agony Governor Bill Richardson went through in arriving at his decision to endorse Senator Barack Obama. His friendship and loyalty to the Clintons, viewed against the integrity and hopeful promise of the Obama campaign, must have caused weeks of indecision for the New Mexico governor.
His decision to endorse Senator Obama, even as he had to face an "uncomfortable" conversation
with Hillary Clinton and heavy handed criticism from her surrogates,
validates his own honesty and integrity, and certainly raises "doing
the right thing" to a new level, one I hope I would be able
to emulate in the face of similar tough decisions. For these reasons,
I nominate Governor Bill Richardson for the BuzzFlash "Wings
of Justice" award.
Noble actions aren't often the stuff of politics, but Richardson
makes the hopelessly politically compromised Republicrat James
Carville look
like Mary Matalin's fetch dog. Carville's
base attack on Richardson ensures that the New Mexico governor
looks more like a patriot concerned about the future of his party
and his nation, rather than succumbing to the type of "Omerta" oaths
demanded of the staffs of both the Clinton and Bush camps.
Because Richardson stood up for what he believed is best for America's
future, he more than merits being honored with this week's BuzzFlash
Wings of Justice Award.
