Chris Dodd
On rare occasion, the BuzzFlash staff nominates the Wings of Justice
Award winner, and that is the case this week with Senator Chris
Dodd.
It has nothing to do with the presidential race (since we don't endorse
Democratic candidates in primaries), but everything to do with his effort to
ensure that telecom companies don't receive retroactive immunity for illegally
cooperating with Bush's domestic spying program that violates our law
and
our privacy.
It is unimaginable that the Democratic leadership in the Senate is going along
with this "get out of jail" card for corporations that helped the White
House act like the old Soviet Union.
Dodd promised to filibuster the bill as written -- and that was enough to get
Harry Reid to table it until the beginning of next year.
We surely hope that Dodd continues his courageous battle against Republicans
and lapdog Democrats alike, even after the presidential primaries have taken
their course.
But for the moment, his action in holding the telecommunications industry and
the Bush Administration responsible for illegal spying on us more than merits
this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
