David Warner
A BuzzFlash reader thinks David Warner, M.D.
and Ph.D., a public health expert from San Diego, deserves this week's
Wings of Justice Award:
"For his single-handed efforts to expose the billions of U.S.
taxpayer dollars being wasted in Afghanistan and documenting U.S.
(Katrina-like) failures in reconstruction there, even when warned
by the Pentagon not to go public with what he has discovered. Our
tax dollars are being wasted while the health of Afghanis is not
only not being helped, but in many cases, is being threatened even
further by our government's actions."
Warner has tried everything he possibly can to alert Bush Administration
officials as to the waste and corruption involved in healthcare aid
to Afghanistan, but to no avail.
According to a CBS
News report:
Warner is a public health expert from San Diego who's taken
it upon himself to do what no one else in Afghanistan seems to be
doing -- documenting the failures in reconstruction. He says the
system can't be fixed unless those responsible first admit that it's
broken.
But it's a hard sell. Warner says he has tried to report his findings
to officials at the Pentagon. "I was brought aside and they told me, don't tell that story," Warner
said. "I said why not. And they said well, this is one of our
success stories."
We looked through Warner's credentials and this guy is loaded to
the teeth, with an expertise in computer modeling of public health
responses to crises. This is a guy who knows the difference between
man-made disasters and natural disasters. The public health crisis
in Afghanistan falls into the former, corrupt Bushevik style.
For caring about the health of the people of Afghanistan -- and speaking
out about the waste of our tax dollars -- David Warner merits this
week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
