WINGS OF JUSTICE AWARD WINNERS

Normally, we don't consider Republicans for the BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award. That is because most Busheviks are like the followers of Jim Jones; they stay loyal to their psychologically impaired and mentally challenged leader until the last drop of Kool-Aid.

James B. Comey, in particular, is often described as a Republican loyalist and is currently General Counsel for Lockheed Martin, a senior member of the military industrial complex.

But, Comey, according to his recent Congressional testimony, did an incredible thing. He actually stood up to the lawlessness of the Bush Administration.

As described in a recent BuzzFlash editorial, Comey summoned powerful courage on behalf of the Constitution. Learning that Alberto Gonzales and Andrew Card –- then White House Counsel and Chief of Staff, respectively –- were going to try and coerce a seriously ill, medicated and hospitalized John Ashcroft to sign off on giving Bush the Draconian illegal domestic wiretapping powers, Comey alerted the head of the FBI and raced to Ashcroft's bedside.

This was no minor showdown. In essence, Comey -- who was officially the Acting Attorney General due to Ashcroft's incapacitation -- chose the Constitution and the rule of law over loyalty to the Bushevik organized crime family.

Card and Gonzales were clearly there at the orders of George W. Bush, and the implication was that they were going to force a drug-dazed Ashcroft to sign the illegal document, because they thought that there would be no witnesses. They were breaking so many laws -- along with Bush -- but it is important to remember this one in particular: Comey, who refused to sanction the illegal Bush actions, was the Attorney General at the time. It is logical to conclude that Gonzales and Card were going to force Ashcroft, who also had opposed the Bush domestic wiretapping plan as breaking the law, to sign the authorization and then pre-date it.

Comey -- who also appointed Patrick Fitzgerald special counsel in PlameGate -- and the head of the FBI made Gonzales and Card retreat from the hospital room (having gained entrance due to an alleged call from Bush himself), without having been able to muscle a signature out of Ashcroft.

The BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award is meant to honor a profile in courage on behalf of justice, even if we don't always agree with the ongoing politics of an individual.

Given that criteria, James B. Comey more than merits this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award. He stood up to the President of the United States and his henchmen in a spontaneous, profound, and fearless act.
