Kevin Tillman, Mary Tillman, Jessica Lynch, and
Pat Tillman (posthumously)
It was a week that began with a tasteless, opportunistic,
and dishonest statement on the "Today" show by Laura Bush.
When asked about how American families are experiencing great pain
because
of the Iraq War, Laura retorted: "And
believe me, no one suffers more than their president and I do when
we watch this, and certainly
the commander in chief, who has asked our military to go into harm's
way."
Just a short time later George and Laura were "boogeying" to
the beat of bongo drums at the White House.
In contrast to the narcissistic,
self-pity of the Bushes, Kevin Tillman, Mary Tillman, and Jessica
Lynch testified before Congress
about how the Pentagon –– under the condoning watch of
the Bush Administration, no doubt –– abused the good
names of Pat Tillman and Ms. Lynch to score political points. In
short, the
Pentagon hid
the truth and created fictional stories of heroism to divert attention
from administration problems in the United States.
Pat Tillman may not have died as a result of the heroic fiction the
military created. And Jessica Lynch –– a young woman
who joined the military because of a lack of job opportunities in
her native
West Virginia – may not have been "girl Rambo."
But they and their relatives deserve to be honored for their heroism
in trying to ferret out the truth from the Bushevik lies. They truly
merit this week's BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award.
