Ted Kennedy
Ted Kennedy has minced no words about the tragic incompetent
farce called the Iraq War. Because the corporate media has written
him
off as a "Massachusetts liberal," his impassioned
denunciations of the Bush-Cheney bumbling hawks get scant coverage.
But a BuzzFlash reader nominated Ted Kennedy for another reason:
his no-holds barred defense of the needs of the working people of
America.
Philip Beard of Baton Rouge wrote: "I heard excerpts
of Ted Kennedy’s speech on the floor last week blistering Republican
senators for sinking the passage of a minimum wage bill with billions
of dollars worth of attachments and tax breaks. Mr. Kennedy called
them out for their greed and contempt for the working poor.
"His honest fury and rage for the behavior exhibited by the callous
indifference to the living conditions of Americans who have no voice
in the Senate, no power, and living in a reality that resembles
that described by Dickens in 18th Century England is a just condemnation
of the Republican Party.
"Ted Kennedy has been marginalized and defamed by the immoral right
wing airwave hate machine for years. Yet Mr. Kennedy soldiers on
in the fight for an idea of what America can be."
Since this nomination was forwarded to BuzzFlash, the minimum wage
bill was passed by the Senate, after a compromise was struck with
the GOP that grants tax cuts to small businesses. It has to be reconciled
with a House version that doesn't include tax breaks.
Whatever the final outcome, Ted Kennedy, the unflagging war horse
for economic and social justice, will be there representing the interests
of the people, not the government and corporate poobahs.
For that, he more than deserves this week's BuzzFlash Wings
of Justice Award.
