Bill Moyers
Because there are so many worthy nominees, it is extremely
rare that BuzzFlash awards the honor twice to the same person. But
in the case of Bill
Moyers,
the exception is well-deserved. Speaking at the third Conference for Media Reform on
January 12,
Moyers once again eloquently, passionately, and convincingly made
the case for democratizing news coverage in America.
Moyers knows that the wellspring of our liberty swells from the
bottom up – not the top down. The media should represent
the diversity of American opinion and the broad range of our citizenry;
it should
not tell us what our outlook should be.
In short, Moyers envisions a media that serves the people, not
its corporate owners and the status quo interests of the entrenched
powers
in D.C.
Democracy needs to be nurtured, not patronized.
The winning BuzzFlash reader who nominated Moyers called him a
jet plane for justice – and indeed he is.
For that, he merits this week's BuzzFlash "Wings
of Justice Award."
