CODEPINK
CODEPINK, an organization of women who use innovative techniques
and a sense of humor to try to end the Iraq War, have not forgotten
the importance of highly visible protests.
Just last week, they disrupted a news conference by Rahm Emmanuel
on ethics reforms to call for making the Iraq War a more urgent Democratic
Party priority. Shortly thereafter, members of the group departed
with Cindy Sheehan for Cuba to call for the closure of the Guantanamo
horror pit known as "Gitmo."
And around the country, on any given week, local CODEPINK members
are conducting creative peace protests that result in media coverage
-- and not infrequently arrests.
A BuzzFlash reader noted: "I am nominating CODEPINK
and the peace protesters who were in Washington this week to remind
the Democrats that we will hold them accountable to do what they
were elected to do, which is get us out of Iraq."
In an age of protests that usually don't get beyond
e-mail, phone calls, and letters, CODEPINK is bringing a message
of sanity about the Iraq War to the streets.
For that, they merit this week's BuzzFlash "Wings
of Justice Award."
