Kevin Tillman
In a gripping,
powerful commentary on Truthdig, the editor's note
simply states: "Kevin
Tillman joined the Army with his brother Pat in 2002, and they served
together in Iraq and Afghanistan."
We all know that Kevin came home and Pat didn't. The Pentagon lied
about the cause of Pat's death in Bush's "War on Terror," and
then lied
again.
Kevin penned a compelling denunciation of how he, his brother,
and family were betrayed by leaders who cared more about their
own power than about the truth.
"Somehow," Kevin wrote, "the more soldiers that die, the more
legitimate the illegal invasion becomes. Somehow, American leadership,
whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading
a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor
of its soldiers on the ground."
Kevin has much more to say about trust and integrity -- and about
those who have turned their backs on their patriotic duty to the
military.
We can only imagine that it is not easy, in one's grief, to summon
the courage and articulate the rage necessary to battle for justice,
democracy and honesty, after one has battled in combat and lost
one's brother.
Kevin Tillman, however, has done just that. He more than merits
this week's BuzzFlash "Wing's of Justice Award."
