Steve Howards
A BuzzFlash reader wrote, "I'd like to nominate Mr. Howards for bravely
and appropriately exercising his First Amendment right to speak truth
to power."
According to a newspaper article, "Steve Howards was walking his son to
piano practice when he noticed Cheney talking to a group of people in an outdoor
mall in Beaver Creek [Colorado]...
"Howards took the opportunity to
condemn U.S. policies in Iraq, after which he was placed in handcuffs and
taken to the Eagle County Jail.
"A Secret Service agent, according to the suit, told police Howards should
receive a summons for harassment, but the Eagle County District Attorney dismissed
the
charges."
You got that right, Howards was arrested this past summer for exercising his
right of free speech. Apparently, the Secret Service has turned into a personal
goon squad for Cheney. They are no longer accountable to the Constitution as
paid employees of the citizens of the United States of America.
Now, Howards has filed
a lawsuit in an effort to uphold our Constitutional right of free speech.
Apparently,
he believes he is living in America, not the Soviet Union.
Cheney thinks otherwise and believes that the Secret Service is his own KGB.
Our best wishes for Howards to prevail in his legal action. It's our Constitution
that is at stake, and that is why Steve Howards merits this
week"s "BuzzFlash Wings of Justice Award."
