Bill Moyers

Bill Moyers is such a heartfelt defender of a free press, such a courageous spokesperson for democracy, such an eloquent articulator of our Constitution, that the man can make you cry for how far we have strayed as a nation.

As far as journalism, Moyers is Shakespeare compared to the pulp fiction writers of our mainstream media. Since he left his position as Press Secretary for Lyndon Johnson, Moyers has put his reporter's stethoscope up to the heart of America. He has always believed that the inner good of Americans will triumph over our errant ways. And he has championed the diversity of America's voices and opinions, because we are a nation of free thinkers.

For his commitment to inclusiveness and open debate, Moyers has been branded a "dreaded liberal" by those who believe in the politics of exclusion and ideological purity. Moyers, a man who chooses his words with excruciating care, knows where such extremism will lead -- and knows that it is un-American.

For his commitment to our Constitutional principles and his defense of the American right of free speech, Bill Moyers is this week's recipient of the BuzzFlash " Wings of Justice" Award.
